Roger Hilton
1911 - 1975
Untitled

signed R.H and dated 73 (lower right)
gouache, charcoal, watercolour and pencil on paper
unframed: 27 by 43cm.; 10½ by 17in.
framed: 48 by 63.5cm.; 18¾ by 25in.
Executed in 1973.

Condition Report:
The sheet is hinged to the mount in two places at the upper sheet edge verso. The sheet has a deckle at upper and right edges.

The remaining two sides are neatly cut. The sheet is slightly rippled, in keeping with the medium. There are Artist's pin holes at each corner and a couple of minute nicks at extreme sheet edges. There is some craquelure to a spot of bright orange pigment lower right, as well as a small spot of lifting. There may be a tiny few flecks of loss to the dark orange pigment. The work appears to be in very good overall condition. There are one or two pale brown stains to the verso, one very faintly visible recto towards the lower centre. There are a few further minute stains and fox marks verso. There is an instance of craquelure to a raised orange pigment in the lower right quadrant, with one or two possible further instances elsewhere. There may be one or two flattened impasto tips. There is some very slight surface dirt and a few instances of studio detritus in places, and one or two accretions.

The work is float mounted and presented in a simple wooden frame, held under glass.
