"The overall design of this work shows a strong forward thrust with the guns defending the nation featured alongside a sickle and tools of industry as the weapons needed to win the war. Ho Chi Minh proudly holds prime position in this poster as the ‘father of the people’ overseeing and guiding the nation’s fight for liberation. The work reflects a strong Russian stylistic influence showing the idealized three personas; the worker, soldier, and peasant representing the ‘everyman’ (and woman) all needed to win the war. The featured flag is the Communist South flag used between 1968 and 1975. After reunification the national flag of Vietnam became red with the yellow star" (Deborah Salter).
