PROVENANCE:
Pundole Art Gallery, Mumbai.
Condition: The colours of the original are less saturated and subtler than the catalogue illustration. A repaired horizontal Y-shaped tear is visible in the upper centre of the painting and runs through the standing figure’s face. A second area of repair, possibly also a tear is visible on the standing figure’s shoulder and goes down to his arm, partially visible in the catalogue. Two further areas of repair visible on the seated figure’s knees and calves. A small fine web of craquelure visible in scattered areas. When examined under UV light, areas of retouching correspond to the areas of repair mentioned and along the lower and right edge. A new image of the work post recent restoration is available on request. Overall good condition.
