Uruaçu Meteorite Iron, IAB-MG Goias, Brazil - (14° 32'S, 48° 46'W) Found: 1992 Found on a ranch in Brazil, the strewn field of the Uruaçu Meteorite is owned by a private individual, so specimens are not often seen for sale. Most of the pieces were big examples of this octahedrite, and this offering weighing 780.3 grams is somewhat of an exception. This meteorite has a hand axe shape with a sharp edge all around the solid form. Mysteriously dark, the exterior is complemented with an orangey patina adding contrast to the metallic visitor from Outer Space. A "hand specimen," if there ever were one, this meteorite exhibits a "shrapnel" nature with a layering of sorts to its very obviously torn metal structure. The piece will balance in a vertical orientation on the slightly deeper end with a tapering as the sides of the rock meet at the top. The combination of the shape of this as well as it being Uruaçu, is something to take note of seriously. This is a must for any collection. Measurements: 4.34 x 3.30 x 1.43 inches (11.03 x 8.37 x 3.62 cm), weighs 780.3 grams HID09710052018 © 2024 Heritage Auctions | All Rights Reserved
