Technique: Etching on Paper

Date: 1682

Description: The print shows a woman in antique garb facing an eagle and grasping its wings with her right hand. In her left hand she holds a feather. The eagle in turn is clutching the woman's foot. It is probably Hebe, the goddess of youth, with the eagle of Jupiter. The sheet is part of the series "Opera Selectiora" etched by Valentin Levebvre. It is a 53-part print series based on paintings by Titian and Veronese. Jacob Van Campen first published the series in 1682.
