VENETIAN SCHOOL, FIRST HALF OF THE 16th CENTURY Madonna...
VENETIAN SCHOOL, FIRST HALF OF THE 16th CENTURY
Madonna with Child and Saint Catherine, Saint John the Baptist and two other saints
Oil on canvas, cm. 91x124,5. Framed
The canvas is an example of "Sacra Conversazione" which refers to the dominant models in the Veneto area in the early decades of the sixteenth century, primarily Bellini and Carpaccio. We note, however, an attempt to update in a key of more rustic naturalism that is affected by masters more linked to the hinterland such as Bernardino Licino, Lotto and Previtali, which gives the canvas its distinctive sapidly popular character.
