VIKING IRON AXE AND HAMMER ON STAND

C. 800-1100 AD. Viking age. An iron axe / war hammer head composed of a broad cutting blade and a spiked point on the rear. The dual combination of cutting blade and spiked point would have allowed for both hacking and stabbing attacks, thee latter perhaps best suited for dealing with heavily-armoured opponents. Good condition; on a custom stand. Size: 110mm/L:265mm/H:70mm (without stand); 1000g. Provenance: From an old British collection formed in the 1990s; previously acquired in Germany.
