VIKING IRON BATTLE AXE ON STAND
c. 900-1100 AD. Viking age. This iron battle axe features a circular sokcket and a long, narrow head, allowing its user to deliver maximal force in a single, precision blow. A circular aperture in the central part of the blade could have allowed for suspension when the axe was not in use. The metal is stable, sealed and the items is mounted on a custom made stand. Size: H:145mm/L:115mm/H:80mm; (without stand); 420g. Provenance: From the private collection of an Essex gentleman; previously in an old British Collection, formed in the 1980s.
