VINTAGE BLACKAMOOR FIGURE
18th c. French Carved and Painted Wood Standing Blackamoor Figure on integral plinth, with gold and silver scraffito highlights, the young negro boy with a saucy smile on his puckish features is holding out his left hand (to receive calling cards, probably), his right hand resting on his hip, in Renaissance costume with silver buttoned bodice, robes tucked into his belt opened at front revealing his legs to the knees, low closed slippers, 61" tall, 19 1/2" wide at elbows, 19" deep. Repaired left hand and elbow, scattered flakes revealing gesso, shrinkage cracks. Provenance: From the Rosemarie Wolfe Estate, Palm Beach, FL.
