VIRGINIA MANUFACTORY PERCUSSION CONVERSION
MUSKET. Cal. 72. NSN. Bbl. 31". Bbl. has a sight leaded into the breech. Lock is converted to percussion, likely by the Confederacy. Lock marked in front of the hammer, “VIRGINIA” & “RICHMOND 1819” to the rear of the hammer. Iron trigger guard, buttplate, side plate, bbl. band, nosecap & ramrod. Interesting figured wood stock carved in back of the side plate, “WILLIAM. W / FUL”. The name was likely carved by a Confederate soldier marking his weapon. CONDITION: bbl., lock & all other iron parts have a dark untouched patina. Bbl. obviously has been cut to 31" length. Lock holds cock but needs adjustment. Lock markings are reasonably clear & easily legible. Stock has been stretched from the rear bbl. band forward. Stock has an old screw repair between the hammer & the bbl. tang & has filled cracks on both sides of the butt. Dirty bore. (01-18002/BF). ANTIQUE. $800-1,200.
