VIRGINIA MERCHANT'S STENCILED STONEWARE JAR

VIRGINIA MERCHANT'S STENCILED STONEWARE JAR, salt-glazed, "5" gallon capacity, cylindrical form with slight shoulder, flat-top rounded rim, beaded shoulder ring, arched handles, and Albany-slip glazed interior. Stenciled cobalt "C. G. TAYLOR / PETERSBURG, Va." with additional stenciled ornaments. Circa 1875.

Condition: Multiple light radial hairlines including a 6 1/2" L hairline over stencil, two moderate flakes to one handle corner, and chip to underside edge.

Size: 15 3/8" H, 9 3/4" D rim.
