VOLKSTEDT “Large Bisque Porcelain Group with Putto and Big Cat” Volkstedt Porcelain Factory Richard Eckert & Co. AG. 1894–1918. Biscuit porcelain, white. Collar and link chain made of gilded metal. A powerfully forward-striving, sparsely draped putto stands on a profiled natural base decorated with floral reliefs and rocaille motifs. With his left hand, he leads a panther—leaping wildly with its mouth wide open—by a gilded chain. The fine, unglazed bisque surface masterfully highlights the sculptural details of the flowing curls of hair, the boy’s musculature, and the expressively rendered fur of the big cat. On the underside is the blue underglaze mark of crossed forks. Dimensions: Height: approx. 25 cm. In very good condition, consistent with its age. No visible restorations. Original chain preserved.
