Provenance: A VOYAGE ROUND THE WORLD, IN THE YEARS MDCCXL, I, II, III, IV. By Anson, George. About this Item: Printed for John and Paul Knapton, London, 1748. Hardcover. Condition: VG. Stated Second Edition. George Anson, Esq., Commander in Chief of a Squadron of His Majesty's Ships, sent upon an Expedition to the South-Seas. Compiled from the papers and other materials of the Right Honourable George Lord Anson, and published under his direction. By Richard Walter, M. A. With charts of the Southern part of South America, of part of the Pacific Ocean, and of the track of the Centurion round the world in the years- 1740, '41, '42, '43 and 1744. Contemporary brown embossed/gilt ruled leather, with 5 raised band compartment spine, and gilt titled red leather label - Anson's Voyage. Lt extremity wear/rubbing, joint wear and bottom front corner barely bumped/wrinkled. Prev. owner’s decorative bookplate on pep. Some very minor tanning on some text pgs. 2nd to the last leaf has 2 tiny margin chips not affecting text. Last text leaf has 2 small/tiny foredge chips at bottom edge and 2 chips at the inner gutter text and margin area, one measuring 2 1/4"x 1/2", & other 1/2" x 1/4" where a very small area of the text is missing at the margin edge though pretty much decipherable while reading. Possibly a binder's mistake with an overabundance of glue while the final map was attached, causing these chips. The map charts, 10" x 17", 19" x 20" and 11 1/2" x 35 1/2" have a touch of very lt foxing, one map has an approx. 7" closed edge archival tear repair, done professionally with archival glue, barely noticeable. Overall very good/binding tight and the maps are in very nice condition. Errata list present at the end of the introduction. 3 Large Folding Charts; 548 pages.
