A landscape painting executed in oil on panel, depicting a country cottage with a red-tiled roof and chimneys set behind trees and hedging, fronted by an open meadow. Signed with an intertwined painted monogram reading VP to the lower right.
The panel is housed in a carved gilt wood frame with a textured combed finish and beaded inner slip. The verso retains a paper framer's label printed in black with a silhouette vignette of a seated figure playing a pipe, reading ROWLEY / 140-2 CHURCH ST / KENSINGTON W.8.
Width: 54 cm. Height: 44.5 cm.
More Information
Surface dirt and spotting across the painted surface, particularly visible in the sky area (photo 2 and photo 4). Minor scuffing and losses to the gilt finish along the outer edges and corners of the frame (photo 1). The reverse shows general age-related discolouration, edge abrasions to the board, and tears to the paper label (photo 6 and photo 7).
