Valdivian Pottery Female Venus Figure

Pre-Columbian, Ecuador, Valdivian culture, ca. 3500 to 1500 BCE. A hand-built pottery Venus figure of a characteristically feminine form with a slender waist and hands held beneath perky breasts. Her highly burnished body is painted with red slip pigment that has darkened over time. Her minimalist face has slit-form eyes, lips, and brows framed within a bulbous coiffure which is topped by a twin-lobed, centrally parted headdress. A sweet and petite example! Size: 1" W x 3.6" H (2.5 cm x 9.1 cm)
