Vanadinite & Calcite San Carlos Mine (Apex Mine), San Carlos, Mun. de Manuel Benavides, Chihuahua, Mexico Often overshadowed by more numerous specimens from other Northern Mexico localities, the Vanadinites and the Wulfenites from the San Carlos (aka Apex) Mine are justly famous in their own right. Here is a very respectable group of orange Vanadinite prisms measuring an amazing 1.5 inches in height: pretty good for anywhere, no? Nature decided to dress up the mix by giving the specimen a light dusting of colorless and sparkling: Calcite crystals. What's not to like? It's either a wonderful "toenail" with its party dress on, or a couple of tall English Barristers.
