European Private Collection

From 8 October 2003 to 25 January 2004, the Castello di Rivoli Museum of Contemporary Art hosted a solo exhibition by Vanessa Beecroft surveying a decade of the artist’s practice, from 1993 to 2003, through videos, photographs and installations.
Created specifically for the occasion, VB52 took the form of a seven-hour performance staged around a large transparent table, at which 32 participants were seated, including models,
family members and members of the Savoy aristocracy. The banquet, structured around food arranged in precise chromatic sequences, transformed a convivial ritual into a living composition, in which bodies, gestures, colours and spatial arrangements became integral elements of the work.
In VB52, Beecroft explores several central themes of her artistic practice: the relationship between body and image, the construction of identity, social codes, and the tension between individual presence and collective staging. The banquet thus transcends its everyday function to assume an aesthetic and performative dimension, in which formal order and duration become essential elements of the work.
