Vase, Jean Besnard
Jean Besnard
Vase
circa 1930
glazed stoneware
monogrammed JB in enamel
12 in. (30.5 cm) high
8 in. (20.3 cm) diameter
Condition Report:
Overall in very good condition. The glaze presents with surface irregularities and open air bubbles inherent to production as well as light craquelure consistent with age and the natural evolution of the medium. As pictured in the catalogue photography, the neck of the vase presents with irregular application and losses to the rusty red overglaze. The rim of the vase presents with a few small abrasions to the glaze, the largest measuring approximately 1 in. long and not visually distracting. The glazed surfaces present with extremely faint scattered scratches, only visible upon close inspection and consistent with gentle handling.
