Vases (2) - Lacquer - Japan - Meiji period (1868-1912)
Large and refined pair of lacquered vases with shibayama decoration in mother of pearl and ivory. Both vases depict two wisemen, one with a crane, the other with a tiger. They finish with three bamboo-shaped silver feet. Excellent condition of the gilding and shibayama decoration. They have some minimal defects, specifically a small restoration to the gilding and a light crack to the lacquer as indicated in the photos. Japanese artefact from the Meiji period (circa 1890–1910) . The item was produced prior to 1947, and is therefore in compliance with European Union regulations on ivory trade. The item comes with a certificate of authenticity that will be sent to the buyer. Very important note for customers outside the EU: This lot cannot be sold outside the EU.
