Vatine
Vatine OLIVIER VATINE AQUABLUE Delcourt Original cover illustration for the magazine Amstrad Cent Pour Cent No. 22, January 1990. Signed. Colored inks and acrylic on paper 30.5 × 41.5 cm (12.01 × 16.34 in.) Olivier Vatine is closely associated with the arrival of Delcourt Publishing on the French market in the late 1980s: Guy Delcourt’s very first graphic novels indeed bear his signature. This is no small matter. Delcourt was the trailblazer in comics for the Star Wars generation, and Olivier Vatine embodied that spirit with *Aquablue*. This series truly defined its era, and many believe that Vatine’s work greatly inspired James Cameron and *Avatar*. It’s also important to note that this is the only color illustration of Nao wearing his armor.
