Venetian Polychromed and Parcel-Gilt Headboard
Venetian Polychromed and Parcel-Gilt Headboard
in the 18th-century rococo taste, with a shell- and foliate-carved crest over flora, scrolls, volutes and arabesques.
h. 43-1/2", w. 80", d. 2-1/2"
Condition Report: **In overall good condition. The surface exhibits some craquelure and crazing, rubbing and losses to gilt and scattered discoloration to the polychromy, all lending to a handsome "patina". Normal shrinkage and wear. The piece seems to be slightly warped from top to bottom. There is an apparent straight re-glue line at the tapered portion beneath the crest where two boards are laminated together. Battens on back of piece are newer. There is no visible insect damage. NOTE: The correct depth is about 2-1/2 inches, NOT 22" as stated in the print and earlier online catalogues.
