Verdure Tapestry
Leiden (Netherlands), c. 310 x 254 cm, about 1570, woven tapestries with exotic animals in a park landscape are also known as ‘game park’ tapestries; the present piece depicts two riders with hounds and a number of mythical creatures in a meadow landscape, especially remarkable is its large late-Baroque main border; several repairs, especially to the upper section and along the vertical central axis, the blue outer borders have been attached at a later date, backed with linen fabric.
