Verneh and soumack, kilim type 175 x 330 cm - Wool on Wool - Early 19th century

Antique piece, circa 1880. Rare verneh/soumack - both techniques have been used. ( see detailed photos) Very tight pattern. Beautiful stone red, natural vegetable dyes used that are durable and colourfast. Along the edges, some damage - very expertly restored - no longer visible. This is a collector's piece - from 1880. The reason that this object is still in such a good condition (or still exists at all) is because it has hung on a wall. See the detailed photos of the back - a sewn-on cover that a rope could pass through can be seen from top left to bottom. So it hung horizontally - which you usually see when it hung on a wall.
