Verner Panton - Vitra - Chair (2) - Panton Chair

[ translate ]

Like any tenacious visionary, Verner Panton, the Danish designer of the last century, had made his own the motto of Walt Disney "If you can dream it, you can also do it". He (1926 - 1998) , born and raised in Denmark then occupied by German troops, is still considered an extraordinary artist today. Or rather, a Nordic designer who is not at all minimal. The lot of two Panton Chairs in this auction is in very good condition of use. The chairs were bought 3 years ago and never used. The Vitra brands and Verner Panton signature are embossed on the shell of all the chairs The chairs are stackable. They fit one on top of the other, taking up little space Chair dimensions in cm: Height 83 - Width 50 - Depth 50 "Design Radicale" includes transport insurance for Italy / Europe in the shipping costs indicated. Verner Panton (1926 - 1998) was a forward-looking and innovative Danish industrial and interior designer who earned a leading role in the history of design of the last century, thanks to his revolutionary approach to color and a mathematical sense of form capable to transform geometry into pure wonder. His most innovative designs are probably those inspired by organic forms - hypnotic tangles of sinuous lines that eluded any previous design experiment - but in general I believe that his revolutionary reach lay in his stubborn temperament and his experimental instinct. Panton was fascinated by the modern technologies that appeared in the production landscape at that time, expanding the possibilities of the furniture industry and new materials, primarily plastic, with which he wanted - and very strongly wanted - to create the first chair cast and printed in a one piece: the immortal Panton Chair. Vitra was founded in Weil am Rhein in Germany in 1950 by Willi Fehlbaum, owner of a furniture store in nearby Basel in Switzerland. In the following years, Fehlbaum bought the rights to the works of Charles and Ray Eames and George Nelson. After a fire destroyed the Vitra factories in 1981, British architect Nicholas Grimshaw was called in to design a new factory. Next to the aluminum hall, ready for production only six months after the fire, another production plant was built in 1986 by the Portuguese architect Álvaro Siza. In 1989 it is the turn of Frank Gehry who designed another building next to the first two. Gehry himself also built the "Vitra Design Museum", originally intended to house the private furniture collection of Rolf Fehlbaum, owner of Vitra. In 1993, Iraqi architect Zaha Hadid added a fire station that now houses a collection of chairs from the Design Museum. In the same year, a conference pavilion designed by the Japanese architect Tadao Andō was built, Ando's first work outside of Japan. In 1994 the administrative staff of Vitra moved to the new headquarters (also designed by Frank Gehry) in nearby Birsfelden (Switzerland) , while Alvaro Siza added the shop building to the Weil am Rhein office. It is in the same location that in 2000 a geodesic dome designed by the American architect Richard Buckminster Fuller was installed, built in 1975 and now used as a space for events and exhibitions, while in 2003 a service station from a project by Jean Prouvé also arrived. French architect and designer.
