A Kutahya moulded pottery jug by Hilmi, Turkey, 19th Century
with cylindrical body with cusped moulded base, rounded spout and curved handle, the cover partially opened, painted underglaze in cobalt blue, turquoise, yellow, manganese and tomato red with black outline with a repeated design of floral sprays in vases to the body interspersed by further floral sprays, the handle and rim with bands of stripes, the spout with foliate motifs, artist's signature to base 'Hilmi, Kütahya'

At the beginning of the nineteenth century, production of ceramics at Kutahya ceased and was later revived by Muhammed Hilmi Effendi who produced pieces in the Iznik style.
