Provenance: Cotton orange peel / melon patch quilt, all hand pieced and hand quilted, made from a variety of very early fabrics (including some chintz fabrics) from the first quarter of the 19th century. There is quilting around the piecework throughout at 8 stitches to the inch. The back is an early striped print, the hand stitched binding consists of a variety of early fabrics, and the batting is thin. The quilt was made for a poster bed, and there are intentional 15" cutouts in two corners of the quilt.
