Very beautiful pair of 19th century bracelets alternating floral motifs in repoussé gold leaf applied on silver and bronze, fixed on nails, and raised forms adorned with cast spherical decorations. Two cast strips highlight the edges in the manner of granulation. These bracelets are called Shams U-Qamar or Shems oul Kmar, meaning the moon and the sun. The presence of gold indicates that we are facing city jewels. This technique is probably the work of Jewish jewellers who were expelled from Spain in the 15th century, who have since settled in the region and developed the technique of repoussé and relief appliqué.
Morocco, Jbala region, between Tetouan and Fez.
Internal dimension: 19 cm.
Diameter: 6.5 cm.
Height: 2.3 cm.
Gross weight: 118.1 g. and 119.9 g.
