Very rare Russian reliquarium blessing cross, silver with niello, Moscow, Russian Empire, 1830-50. A large silver, gilded cross, richly decorated with engraving and niello, depicting the Jesus and Christian Saints. The cross is designed to hold holy relics inside. Used in Orthodox rituals for the blessing of water. Hallmarked with Russian silver proofs and manufacturer marks. Length 30 cm. Weight 569 g. Collectible Russian silver and Orthodox relics.
