Veszelyite Black Pine Mine, Black Pine Ridge, John Long Mts, Philipsburg Mining District, Granite Co., Montana, USA "Some blue matrix with sharp shiny pointed dark blue black veszelyite crystals to about 12 mm growing on it. Bought the specimen from Gordy Gordon at Tucson. The scale under the specimen is an inch with a rule at one cm." - Rock H. Currier Striking, deep turquoise blue Veszelyites were only on the market for a few years when the mine was working and the miners could get to them. Since then, you only see them when a collection comes up for sale. 12mm (about a half inch) is about as large a crystal as was found in the mine. The fact that there are multiple Veszelyite crystals on this matrix specimen is a huge plus. There's been talk of re-opening the mine but so far, no Veszelyite has surfaced, so the mine talk is probably vaporware. This fine thumbnail has distinguished lineage as it was from Curt Van Scriver's collection and was purchased directly from Curt's grandfather, Gordy Gordon. Overall Measurements: 1.0 x 0.8 x 0.5 inches (2.5 x 2.0 x 1.2 cm) Offered at no reserve Provenance: Bought from Gordy Gordon, Ex. Curt VanScriver Collection [RHC #7342, acquired 2002] MinID 2CF-G27, NX4-2W8 [Scale: 1 inch, with mark at 1 cm]
