Of Jewish faith, he fled the pogroms and left the USSR. He moved to Belgium and worked for the "Belga" press agency. During the Second World War, as a Jew, he was arrested and locked up in the Breendonk concentration camp (Belgium) . At the end of the war, trained as a chemist, he successfully started a career as an engineer and worked, in particular, as a scientific translator for the Solvay Company. But his real passion is photography. From the end of the war, he was part of many clubs and joined a new wave and/or generation of artists (photographers, painters) . This “Subjective Fotografie” movement, whose leader is Otto Steinert, reaches the whole world. Many books and exhibitions (USA, Japan, Europe) make this movement known. The name of Victor Elschansky thus appears in numerous publications. Permanent member of the E. F. I. A. P (International Federation of Photographic Art) , Victor Elschansky died on January 28, 1981 in Brussels following a heart attack.
