Victorian Era People's Index Typewriter

An exceptional late 19th-century Victorian-era "People's Typewriter" index typing machine, mounted on its original polished wooden base with fine pin-striping details along the cast iron frame. Manufactured by the People's Typewriter Company (Brooklyn, New York, circa 1890s), this rare mechanical writing instrument features a brass letter scale index arc, a circular rotating typewheel stamped "PEOPLES TYPEWRITER PAT APPLIED FOR" showing low serial number 175, and a mechanical carriage assembly. Condition is good overall for its age and construct, exhibiting authentic surface patina, light surface oxidation and tarnish across metal elements, cracking/wear to the dark rubber platen, and minor scuffing to the finished wood base consistent with historical handling; functionality notes provided indicate the mechanism advances when operated, though the end-of-line bell mechanism does not trigger.
