Victorian Sterling Cup, possible Abolitionist Interest

English Victorian sterling silver beaker cup with a crest depicting the profile of an African male, possibly in commemoration of the 60th anniversary of the Slavery Abolition Act of 1833. Cup has reeded rim above a bulbous, tapering body and applied Neo-classical decorations issuing from the flared, round base. Stamped with hallmarks for William Gibson and John Langman, London, 1893, to body below rim, and retailer marks for Goldsmith and Silversmiths Company, London, to underside of base. Inscription reading "David Henry Cleveland Stewart-Patterson Sept. 21st 1958" to interior of rim. 4" H x 3 3/8" dia. 6.715 total troy ounces. Note: "David Henry Cleveland Stewart-Patterson (b. 1958) is the son of Lady Alison Margaret Bruce (1931-1992), daughter of Edward James Bruce (1881-1968), 14th Earl of Kincardine and the Hon. Katherine Elizabeth Cochrane (d. 1989), and Cleveland Stewart-Patterson."
