Victorian Style Inlaid Writing Slope
This Victorian style papier-mache writing slope features intricate mother of pearl floral inlays and gilded scrollwork on a black lacquer ground. The scalloped-edge lid opens to reveal a divided interior compartment, although the writing surface velvet shows heavy wear and the lid is currently detached. The exterior is decorated with ornate gold-tone acanthus leaf patterns along the base and sides.
Condition
Fair condition with significant craquelure, finish loss to the interior velvet, and visible wear to the gilt and lacquer throughout. The mother of pearl inlay remains largely intact, though the overall structure shows signs of age-appropriate distress. One hinge appears to be detached or missing, as evidenced by the separated lid.
