Victorian silver mug
A Victorian silver mug, the slightly tapering cylindrical body engraved with trailing and ribbon tied leaves, enclosing a contemporary name and date engraving to the front, with 'C' shape handle and raised on a collet foot. Hallmarked Robert Harper, London 1879. Height to rim 11.8cm, weight 7.15ozt (222.5g).
Condition Report:
- Name engraving dated 'August 11 1880'
- Appears in fairly good overall condition
- Displaying some general surface wear, marks, and scratches, commensurate with age and use
- Minor surface nicks, including around rims
- Rim appears very slightly misshapen
- Small surface dint to one side of lower handle join, and further slight dint below engraved date
- Slight knock to one side of foot rim
- Some general tarnishing with a little blackening and dried polish residues to some areas and crevices, including in the engraved decoration and hallmark punches
- Engraved leaf decoration still appears bright and in good overall condition
- Heavier tarnishing/dirt to interior and visible vertical seam on handle side
- Hallmarks located to one side of the upper handle join, these appear a little rubbed in places but still clearly legible
