This image, executed on 24 July 1832, captures the tranquil landscape and lively scene off the banks of the Delaware in high summer. As the steamer awaits departure, passengers disembark from their coaches, others stretch their legs due to the delay. The tranquility of the landscape and atmosphere of the scene are perfectly captured in this image, made close by the 300 acre estate of Joseph Bonaparte, the exiled elder brother of the French Emperor.
