[ translate ]

Northern Europe, Scandinavia, Viking or Norse culture, ca. 8th to 10th century CE. An iron axe head with a curved blade, an oval socket perforation with small protruding tabs, and a thick squared butt end. The blade flares to a broad cutting edge. This axe would have been hafted onto a pole or handle to use as a tool. The minimalist design of the axe head suggests it was used for tasks such as splitting wood and shaping softer materials like mud bricks rather than for warfare. Size: 5.25" L x 2" W (13.3 cm x 5.1 cm)

Provenance: ex- estate of Eldert Bontekoe, Pegasi Numismatics, Ann Arbor, Michigan, USA acquired before 2000

All items legal to buy/sell under U.S. Statute covering cultural patrimony Code 2600, CHAPTER 14, and are guaranteed to be as described or your money back.

A Certificate of Authenticity will accompany all winning bids.

We ship worldwide to most countries and handle all shipping in-house for your convenience.

#158943
