Northwestern Europe, Viking period to Medieval period, ca. 800 to 1300 CE. An iron tool with a wedge-shaped profile that functioned as a hammer head or a tool for a skilled crafts man, such as a blacksmith. The center features a rectangular hafting hole for mounting the head on a wooden handle. A thick and dark patina has developed on the surface. Size: 6.25" L x .875" W x .875" H (15.9 cm x 2.2 cm x 2.2 cm)
