Northern Europe, Viking / Norse people, ca. 8th to 9th century CE. A delicate 96% silver bangle with nine hammered flat Thor's hammers strung around it via twisted silver wire. The surface of the bangle has small incised motifs that make it resemble snake skin, while each hammer is stamped with a variety of triangular and circular symbols. Size: 3.5" W (8.9 cm); total weight 44 grams

Provenance: private New York, New York, USA collection; ex-private Kaliningrad (Koenigsberg) and then Latvia collection; found on the Baltic Sea coast prior to 1982
