Viktor Schreckengost first created this form in plaster in 1932 after photographs his teacher, Paul Bough Travis (American, Cleveland School 1898-1976) brought back with him following his groundbreaking trip to Africa. The bronze depicts Legenda, the daughter of Mangbetu Tribe King Ekibondo and Queen Jeddu(Lot preceding, 46) whom Schreckengost also portrayed in plaster then cast into bronze based on Travis's photographs.
