'Vilstol Nr 1' or '36' lounge chair, 1933/34

Condition Report: This lounge chair represents one of the earliest editions of Mathsson's design. This very early model has the stretchers between the two curved legs low to the floor; as Mathsson developed his design over the years they gradually moved upwards in the frame for stability purposes; 1936, the strechers, now in a different place, the name changed to 'Vilstol modell 36'.
The lounge chair was presented in Mathsson's first solo-exhibition, 1936 at the 'Ršhsska' Museum of Applied Arts, in Gothenburg, Sweden; 1937 it was exhibited at the 'Exposition International' in Paris and in 1939 at the 'International Exposition Golden Gate in San Fransisco.
This example has been professionally restored with new strapping in natural undyed, untreated leather.
