Signature:Vincent Van Gogh

Description:A Dramatic Nocturnal Riverscape Depicting A Broad Expanse Of Dark Blue Water Illuminated By A Chain Of Glowing Lights Along The Distant Shore. Numerous Golden Reflections Descend Vertically Across The River In Broken Passages Of Yellow, Orange, And Cream, Contrasting Strongly With The Surrounding Deep Blue, Green, And Black Tonalities. Above, A Densely Painted Night Sky Is Punctuated By Large Radiating Stars Rendered Through Thick Touches Of Pale Yellow And White. Several Small Boats Occupy The Foreground And Middle Distance, While Figures Positioned Near The Water Introduce A Human Scale To The Expansive Scene. The Vigorous Handling Of The Surface, Heightened Color Contrasts, And Rhythmic Reflections Create An Intensely Atmospheric Interpretation Of Night, Water, And Artificial Illumination.

Historical Significance:Night Scenes Became An Important Subject Within Vincent Van Gogh'S Mature Work, Particularly During His Time In Arles, Where He Explored The Visual Possibilities Of Artificial Light, Stars, Reflected Color, And Deep Nocturnal Blues. His Celebrated Riverside And Night Compositions Transformed Observed Landscapes Through Exaggerated Color And Energetic Brushwork, Allowing Darkness To Become A Setting For Unusually Vivid Chromatic Effects. The Present Composition Reflects This Artistic Vocabulary Through Its Star-Filled Sky, Illuminated Waterfront, Vertical Reflections, And Concentrated Contrast Between Golden Light And Deep Blue Water.

Valuation:Nocturnal Landscapes Associated With Van Gogh'S Mature Visual Language Remain Especially Compelling To Collectors Because Of Their Dramatic Color Relationships And Connection To Some Of The Most Recognizable Imagery In Nineteenth-Century Modern Art. Compositions Featuring Starry Skies, Illuminated Water, And Reflected City Lights Are Particularly Distinctive Within This Tradition. The Lower-Left Signature, Reverse Paris Gallery Labels, Substantial Dimensions, Ornate Framed Presentation, And Richly Worked Nocturnal Palette Contribute To The Work'S Cataloging And Collecting Interest.

Estimate:Estimate: $7,0000 - $10,0000
