Vine by tiffany & co. This piece is from the (late) roslyn berlin's incredible lifetime collection of vine by tiffany. Roslyn was co-author of "tiffany silver flatware, 1845-1905: when dining was an art". Sterling silver gravy ladle with scalloped bowl 7 7/8" with grapevine motif in the pattern vine by tiffany and co. It has a unique diamond design monogram on the reverse (see photo) and is in excellent vintage condition. Vine was first introduced by tiffany in the year 1872. Its innovative multi-motif design is in the japanese style, in aesthetic taste, and is attributed to chief tiffany designer, edward c. Moore. The motifs depicted in vine include various fruits, vegetables, flowers, and one grain (wheat). This rare and highly collected pattern is sometimes referred to as "fruits and flowers". Edward moore, designer of this pattern, dominated the first era of tiffany made flatware and designed several full lines of sterling patterns. Moore's father manufactured for tiffany and upon retirement left edward moore in charge at the young age of 24. In 1868 tiffany incorporated and bought the moore company, making moore a tiffany director and chief designer and head of silverware operation. With his travels, he experienced many exotic cultures and art which significantly impacted his designs. After his death, his true genius was fully acknowledged and he as then called "a prince of silversmiths. . . . Easily the foremost silversmith in the united states. "
