Vintage from the 1980s

Materials

Gold, Stone

Gemstone: Diamond

Size

7 US

Vintage 10kt Emerald Green Ring, Three stones totalling appx 1.25 ctw. Size 7. Weight of the ring is 2.30 grams. Age is appx. 1980's. The was purchased at an estate auction and purported to be emerald however I'm not sure if it is emerald or possibly fluorite. It is an apple green color and looks darker in the photos which were taken outside - lighting does change the shade lightly. The stones are translucent with the inside characters emeralds can have as well as a black deposit inside the stone visible with magnification. Diamond accents on each side of the green stones. The stones are round faceted and range from 4.5mm to 4.8mm and appx, 4mm in depth.
I love the look of the ring. It is 4.9mm across the top center of the finger and tapers down to 1.7mm at the back of the finger. It's a great ring, works as an engagement ring. Due to the setting I cannot accurately test the stone to be sure - if I were just looking at it, I'd say it is emerald - a little lighter than most but it has the look with the way the stones look inside. I did test it on a Presidium tester which is never the sole way of testing stones - it is more to help you rule out what the stone is not and then continue your gemological evaluation from that point.
That tester does not put it at emerald and checking into other similar stones, I've not been able to come up with a conclusive decision as to it's true identity. Possibilities are chrysoprase, green flouride, tourmaline and possibly calcite but my hunch is either emerald or fluorite. Either way, at the price this ring is offered at, it is not a loss no matter what the stone is. Each stone is nestled in a raised setting with scrolled accents on the front and back of the stones and on each end there is a tapered recessed area with two small diamond chips. Great engagement or anniversary ring with a good budget price. Very good condition. Looks new. See photos. (Lot. Loc. W.10.618.A. 5X6 - LD 11.4.18).
