Vintage 1967 Mercedes-Benz 250SE Convertible

The W111 model Convertible is one of the most desirable Mercedes-Benz motor cars and represents a supreme achievement of Mercedes-Benz design and engineering.
The W111 type series was introduced as a four-door saloon in 1959 and this was followed two years later by the exceptionally stylish two-door Coupe version. This was first shown to the public on February 24, 1961, on the occasion of the opening of the Daimler-Benz Museum in Stuttgart. Because of its exceptional design qualities, the Coupe and Convertible managed to outlive the four-door saloon by six years and stayed in production until May 1971.
The W111 series was the first Mercedes-Benz motor car that featured built-in crumple zones. Burst-proof door locks had already been introduced as far back as the early 1950s with the suicide-door 170S model.
The Coupe and Convertible were the last extensively hand-built Mercedes-Benz motor cars made in the Sindelfingen body plant. Compared to the saloon version, the two-door models had four times as many hand-made parts and this is why these delightfully styled cars were priced at twice as much as the more pedestrian four-door versions.
Originally starting with a fuel-injected 2.2-litre engine, in 1965 the cubic capacity was raised to 2.5 litres (2,496 cc) and the new 150 HP versions with M129.980 type engines were sold under the "250" model name. 14-inch wheels and larger dimensioned front and rear disk brakes were also part of the model upgrade.
In the decade from 1961 to 1971, a total of 7,013 convertibles were built. This particular example is one of the rarest versions as only 954 units were ever built of the 250SE convertible equipped with the automatic DB gearbox.
Famous and not-so-famous people flocked to the Daimler-Benz sales offices to acquire one of these beautifully stylish motor cars and amongst these was rocket scientist Wernher von Braun. He owned a number of the W111 motor cars and was so pleased with this model that he bought one of the last ones ever built in 1971.
Featured in many films and shows, you can see a brown Convertible driven by Kevin Costner in the 2005 film "Rumor Has It".
Condition: This classic 1967 Mercedes Convertible is in Very Good Condition. It represents an older restoration and benefits from an aftermarket air conditioning system.
The ivory exterior paint (DB 050) combined with the red leather interior is a classic and very desirable color combination for this model.
PAINTWORK is in fair/good condition. Gapping is consistent. Some clear coat peeling on rear passenger-side. Minor dents and dings on driver's side door. Some stains on the passenger fender.
METAL is sound. There is no rust in the spare wheel well. The door bottoms are solid. The sills show no sign of rust. The wheel arches are free of rust. The headlamp mounting areas are sound.
CHROME is sound but shows minor surface pitting and some minor dents.
WHEELS/TIRES are in good condition. The rims show curbing damage. Hub caps show minor imperfections.
INTERIOR: virtually unmarked. Red leather is in excellent condition throughout. Carpets are unmarked. The dashboard leather and wood are in near perfect condition.
ENGINE runs well. The car was in regular use.
