Vintage 19th C. Powder Flask Lot (3)

[ translate ]

This trio of 19th-century copper and brass powder flasks features classic embossed American patriotic motifs, including a US shield, crossed arms, and patriotic eagles, serving as essential field accessories for muzzleloading firearms during the mid-to-late 19th century. The largest flask is marked BATTY and dated 1848 on the collar. The grouping includes three distinct sizes: the largest flask exhibits a warm, mellow patina with crisp relief work depicting an eagle and shield; the medium flask displays heavy verdigris and patination with a striking fan or shell motif; and the diminutive pocket flask retains wonderful detail and a rich dark tone. Overall, the largest and smallest flasks are in very good condition with strong, unblemished relief and intact bodies. The medium-sized example features a significant amount of surface corrosion and verdigris with no apparent holes in the main body, and none of the three flasks show any significant or detrimental dents. H 9 1/2", W 4", D 1.75'
