American School California Impressionist Oil Painting Mabel Packard Pasadena Signed, O/B, SLR, "Pasadena", 1934, 8 x 10", 15 x 17" framed
Born in Parkersburg, Iowa in 1873. Packard graduated from Stanford University in 1895. In 1897 she moved to Chicago and entered the AIC for four years of study. During 1901-02 she further studied in Paris at Académie Colarossi under Mucha and Mme. Laforge, and in Munich. From Europe she returned to Chicago and had a studio until 1913 when she made her final move to California. After settling in South Pasadena, she exhibited locally and was active in the local art scene. She died there on Feb. 18, 1938. Member: Chicago Society of Artists. Exh: ASL, 1899, 1902 (1st prize wc); Louisiana Purchase Expo (St Louis), 1904 (bronze medal); Gould Gallery (LA), 1910; Daniell Gallery (LA), 1913; Panama-Calif. Int'l Expo (San Diego), 1915 (gold medal); PPIE, 1915; Ely Gallery (Pasadena), 1917; Calif. Society of Miniature Painters (LA), 1924-25.
