.Born in Cambridge, MA on Oct. 20, 1905. Doane came to California in 1907 and studied at the CCAC, the Rudolph Schaeffer School of Design in San Francisco, and privately with Charles Horton, Otis Sheppard, and John Gerrity. Upon his retirement in 1969, he had worked for over 40 years in display advertising. From 1952-79 he conducted watercolor workshops in Virginia City, NV. Over the years he acted as juror for art shows throughout northern California. His paintings won many awards at the Lodi Grape Festivals, California State Fairs, and Alameda County Fairs before his death in Newman, CA on Aug. 24, 2002 Exh: CPLH, 1932 (1st solo); Oakland Art Gallery, 1932; De Young Museum; Oakland AA; SWA, 1940s.
