Vintage American School Maine Artist Walter Reinsel Signed, O/C, Still-Life, Modern, Expressionist, 28 x 38".
Walter Reinsel was born in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1905 and died in 1979. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts with Arthur B. Carles and in France with Andre Lhote.Reinsel worked for a time as a stained glass artist. He was Art Director and Supervisor at N.W. Ayer & Son, 1930-65. His specialty was layout design and typography. Also he was known for his watercolors, especially of Monhegan, Maine.He was a member of the Artists Equity Association, Watercolor Club, Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and Phila.delphia Art Alliance.He exhibited at the following venues: Salons of America; Society of Indpendent Artists 1927; Wanamaker Regional, Philadelphia, 1934; Pennsylvania Academy Annual, 1939-54; Pennsylvania Academy solo exhibition, 1948; Reading Museum of Art, 1945; Philadelphia Watercolor Club Annual, 1950-72; American Watercolor Society, 1958-62; Audubon Artists, 1953-55; Philadelphia Art Alliance (3 solo shows); Dubin Gallery, Philadelphia 1951 (solo); Butler Art Institute 1954-58.Reinsel was the recipient of several awards for layout design & typography: Philadelphia Sketch Club, 1952; Harrison Morris Prize, Pennsylvania Academy Fellowship, 1953-57; Philadelphia Watercolor Club Medal & Award, 1967 & T. Oakley Memorial Prize, 1968
