Vintage Buescher True Tone Aristocrat Scrolled Cornet

[ translate ]

This Vintage Buescher True Tone Aristocrat Scrolled Cornet Circa 1940’s with Case is a beautiful instrument for display and has a beautiful tone. There is beautiful scrolling on the bell, and mother of pearl buttons atop the valves. It has been examined by a professional trumpet player, who deemed that some valve oil would likely bring it back up to full playing condition. There was minor corrosion noted. It measures 17” long, distinguishing it from its larger cousin, the trumpet. There are a few minor dents visible to the naked eye, and no other visible blemishes. The case is lined with green plush velvet, and shows signs of deterioration, as would be expected in an item of its age. However, it still latches and performs its functions as a protective casing.
In 1894 August “Gus” Buescher opened the Buescher Manufacturing Company, which made band instruments and other metal products, in partnership with John L Collins, a clothing merchant, and Harry L Long, a salesman. In March 1901 he patented a cornet unusual in that the valves were of unequal lengths. In 1926 Buescher Band Instrument Company was joined with the Elkhart Band Instrument Company.
Buescher Bb Truetone (Professional) was their main line of instruments during the 1920 until the 1940s. There were a wide variety of Truetone models, many custom made for the professional musician. Louis Armstrong recorded with a Buescher Truetone 10-22R Trumpet in the late 1920s.
The Aristocrat was a Truetone professional trumpet previous to the Selmer buy out in 1963, and became a student horn sometime after that year.
Background information gathered primarily from the Buescher Loyalist website.
