Zografos, Athens—This mid-to-late 20th-century Greek terracotta oinochoe (pitcher) features a hand-painted classical revival scene depicting the mythological tragedy of Phaethon, the Son of the Sun, attempting to guide a winged celestial chariot drawn by a majestic four-horse quadriga. Crafted and hand-signed on the unglazed base by Athenian artist P. Zografos, the vessel is adorned with traditional Greek terracotta palmette scrolls, geometric neck bands, and a stylized trefoil rim with a high-arching black glazed handle. Height: 23 in.
